The Legend of White Bear Lake

'The Legend of White Bear Lake' is a new musical by Caroline Wigmore and Jen Green, which was performed as one of the eight summer shows in 2022 by the organisation British Youth Music Theatre (BYMT). The show, directed by Anthony Underwood, is set in Minnesota, and follows a boy and a girl from two rival tribes who fall in love but are kept apart because the tribes believe that they must never join, otherwise a white bear would awaken and destroy everything. The tribes are mainly made up of North American creatures, such as Timber Wolves, a Bald Eagle and Snapping Turtles.

I was employed as the Assistant Designer for the show, through BYMT's creative scheme, which gives opportunities to young designers, musical directors and deputy stage managers. I was under the leadership of designer Sarah Oxley, who had designed the set and many animal costumes for this show. My main roles involved helping to make and paint the costumes for the show and help source some of the props.
